Artist Statement
Michelle's practice centres on working closely with natural forms and materials, exploring the quiet details found in leaves, flowers, and organic textures. She's drawn to printmaking and mixed media because of their tactile and experimental qualities, allowing her to build layered surfaces through processes such as linoprint, cyanotype, monoprint, and collage.
Much of her work begins with collecting and observing natural elements. These forms are then translated through carving, printing, drawing, and assembling materials by hand. Michelle often works with recycled papers, fabrics, and found materials, allowing the physical qualities of each material to influence the final composition.
Through this process Michelle aims to create pieces that feel both organic and carefully constructed, reflecting the rhythms, imperfections, and resilience found in nature. Her work invites viewers to slow down and engage with the textures, layers, and small details that might otherwise go unnoticed.
